MTN SAFETY was created to merge outdoor safety with occupational safety. The Occupational Avalanche Safety (OAS) program will meet the American Avalanche Association (A3) proficiencies & guidelines as an avalanche safety training curriculum that is relevant to an occupational critical risk management platform. The OAS risk management curriculum focuses on the key areas of avalanche education that directly pertain to companion rescue, personal protective equipment (PPE), avalanche hazards, terrain management, decision making, and team management for occupational and industrial employees that may be exposed to immediate danger to life and health (IDLH) avalanche risks.

OAS Avalanche Training Program
Structured 4-part Occupational Avalanche Program
The Occupational Avalanche Safety program will include a series of courses that follow the guidelines of the American Avalanche Association which will include both virtual, classroom, and field time in relation to each given course. The OAS program will be catered toward mountain occupational workers and is a tiered approach to operational and team decision making and skills. Travel in the field emphasizes terrain recognition with learning to avoid exposure to avalanche terrain when possible.
Step 1
OAS Avalanche Awareness Course
A 1-3hr clinic focusing on the introduction to the hazards of traveling in or near avalanche terrain for mountain occupational workers.
Step 2
OAS Avalanche Rescue Course
A 1-day field based course developed for all winter mountain occupational workers focusing on the best practices in rescue communication, techniques, and gear.
Step 3
OAS Level 1 Avalanche Safety
A 24-hour course for mountain occupational field workers who will learn a repeatable process to manage their risk and the risk of their team while traveling into the field.
Step 4
OAS Avalanche Level 2 Training
A 24-hour course giving mountain occupation team leaders the opportunity to advance their avalanche knowledge and decision-making skills in the workplace.
