The OAS Avalanche Rescue course is developed for all winter mountain occupational workers and is intended to be retaken on a regular basis in order to keep abreast of the best practices in rescue techniques and gear. New participants will learn companion rescue, and returning students will expand their skills and knowledge with advanced topics and realistic scenario practice.
The OAS risk management curriculum focuses on the key areas of avalanche education that directly pertain to companion rescue, personal protective equipment (PPE), avalanche hazards, terrain management, decision making, and team management for occupational and industrial employees that may be exposed to immediate danger to life and health (IDLH) avalanche risks. The OAS program will include a series of courses that follow the guidelines of A3 which will include both virtual, classroom, and field time in relation to each given course. The OAS program will be catered toward mountain occupational workers and is a tiered approach to operational and team decision making and skills. Travel in the field emphasizes terrain and avalanche hazard recognition with education and guidance to avoid risk exposure to avalanche terrain when possible.
