While we have our structured Occupational Avalanche Safety program, we can always customize and tailer any training day or course to your organizations needs. We provide virtual, classroom and field based options and are open to all different types of formatting.

Justin bio

Justin  Ibarra

Partner, Ops Manager & Lead Avy Educator

Justin has been a guide and outdoor educator for nearly 17 years. Raised in the Front Range of Colorado, he then attended Colorado Mountain College for Outdoor Recreation Leadership and since then has held guide, instructor and management roles in areas from Colorado, Alaska, and Kyrgyzstan. Currently he is the Director of Operations and Snow Safety Director for a 4-season guide outfitter where Justin leads their AIARE Avalanche Education Program, Snow Safety/Risk Management Program, ACA Swiftwater Rescue Courses, and is lead guide and guide trainer. Justin is medically certified as a Wilderness First Responder and has various other certifications and training’s including BICP, AIARE, ACA, High Angle Rescue and an AMGA Ski Guide Course Completion. His passion, tactfulness, and overall stoke for being in the mountains is contagious and he loves to share these experiences with others.

Josh Mattson

Partner & Mtn. Occupational Risk Management

Born & raised in Colorado, Josh has been working and playing in the Rocky Mountains for a long time. He has been a Board Member and Director of Development and Training for the International Freeskiers & Snowboarders Association (IFSA) since 2013, and served as the Board President for Two Rivers Community School (TRCS) from 2020-2023.  Additionally, he has worked for Xcel Energy as a certified Millwright and Hydroelectric Foreman since 2007. With AIARE instructor experience, American Avalanche Association (A3) Pro 2 certification, and Wilderness First Responder training he has led and taught avalanche safety education and developed critical risk management programs for utility employees throughout Colorado.

Scott Mahoney

Partner & Business Development

Moving to Colorado in 1992, “Mahoney” has worked in a variety of industries  including real estate, energy development, industrial sales and snow safety. Mahoney has served as the President of the Board of Directors for the International Freeskiers and Snowboarders Association for the last 12 years where he has focused primarily on risk management. Mahoney is also a partner at Silverthorne, CO based, Colorado Adventure Guides, one of Colorado’s most accomplished AIARE Avalanche Safety Educator.

Classroom & On-Snow Education Partner

Our classroom and on-snow education partner is Colorado Adventure Guides (CAG), a four-season adventure and education guide service based in Silverthorne, CO. Over the years CAG has earned the esteemed position of being the largest AIARE educator and multi-season permit holder in the Dillon Ranger District. With additional permitted operations in six adjacent USFS and BLM districts, CAG serves a dynamic and growing population of Colorado recreational and occupational clients covering much of Central Colorado. Colorado Adventure Guides has been providing programming to residents , businesses and visitors  of Summit County for over 20 years. CAG’s all-season, education and risk management operations include:
